Artist Spotlight – Magic Man

Musicheads,

Magic Man is an electronic pop outfit out of Boston.  The band was the creation of a pair of childhood friends who, while working their way through life on a farm one summer abroad in France, decided to create music.  After creating an initial EP in 2010 which caught the attention of Pitchfork and other music blogs, they decided to add a few additional members to the group and focus on creating a more complete sound.  Now a quintet, the group seems to have finally found their shape and sound; a synth-pop dynamo of rich, full sounds and an energetic and joy-injected mood.

The group recently released their latest You Are Here, a 5-track EP which includes the buzz track Paris.

The band has been on tour since September, playing as a supporting  act on a 17-stop tour with Walk The Moon.  This was then followed up by two sets at this year’s CMJ in mid-October.  The band just finished up a brief 8-date mini-tour with Sir Sly just last week as well.

It seems like they have their fingers on the indie pulse right now, as the group has also taken to SoundCloud to remix a number of other Indie artists singles, including, but not limited to San Fermin’s ‘Sonsick’ and Atlas Genius’ ‘If So’.  They have also drawn the attention of  California brother duo Pacific Air who recently remixed their single ‘Paris’.

The group is scheduled to go on a month-long, 27-date tour with New Politics and Sleeper Agent at the beginning of 2014.  Hopefully between now and the end of that tour the group will be able to compile enough new music to release a full-length album before 2014 is out, as I know I’d definitely like to hear more music out of these guys. I guess for now we will just have to make due with the upcoming live shows and hopefully some more remixes.

UPDATE:

And just as I finish posting this, they go ahead and record a Daytrotter live session.  Check it out here.  Also, don’t let that “Untitled” track fool ya, it’s really just Paris 😉
